Women in the military

As some of you might know the Pentagon has offically changed the rules on women in combat. Women are now able to start taking positions closer to the front-line and in harms way. There are a lot of republicans objecting to the new rules. Many of them say that women do not have the ability to fight in combat situations like men. Another argument spoken by the opposition is that women distract men from combat. It seems like these people need a history lesson about women in combat.   While in fact, women have been fighting in wars for a very long time. Here are some examples....

Does anyone remember reading about this women in their elementary history books? While there are some debates over the truth behind this story, it shows that we teach our youth to recognize bravery, whether it be a man or women.

One of the biggest reasons in my opinion that women should be allowed in combat roles. During world war II the Russian military allowed women to fight on the front-line. These women fought and died just like any other man. If Russia in the 1940's could allow it, I think it is about time we allowed women in combat roles.

Just another example of other countries allowing women in combat role. If Israel allows it, we should too.

Asteroid 2012 DA14

If you haven't heard already, this is no ordinary asteroid. This rock is going to narrowly miss old planet earth by about 17,200 miles on February 15, 2013. The rock has a diameter of about 50 meters, so in short it won't cause any extinctions. But why is this significant to know? Well the information we learn from occurrences like this is tremendous. Astronomers learn how to find and track theses potential dangers, so if a bigger one comes along we can prepare. Don't waste your time trying to find this shooting star thought, it cannot be seen by the naked eye.

Nuclear Power Vs. Alternative Energy Debate

The United States is largely reliant on fossil fuels to run our economy. Most likely you already knew that though. What I am saying is that American politics are driven just as much by fossil fuels. The power of the energy companies greatly influences the decisions made by the EPA and other office holders. But what happens when the fossil fuels run out or become to expensive? America will have to make a choice to either switch to renewable energy or nuclear power. I think being informed on the positives and negatives is necessary to make an educated vote. Remember that all candidates have different viewpoints on energy, whether influenced by money or science.

This video is a good quick presentation of both sides: The Energy Debate

Gun Control In America

With the shootings in recent memory, some people in this nation are calling for more regulations on guns. While I am a member of the NRA, I do not agree with the stances they have taken on gun control. I do want more regulation on assault type weapons because they only have one purpose, to kill as efficiently as possible. The average person just does not need that kind of killing power in their hands. But don't get me wrong, I still think that responsible and upstanding citizens should have the right to bear arms. Regulations like background checks and mental screenings are fine by me, because I only want responsible and mentally stable people to be able to own a gun. So in short, people should be able to own any gun they want as long as they pass regulations set up by the government.

Now making sure those regulations are followed is a different problem, which is nicely explained in this video. ATF Link

Here is a good video describing the point of view from the pro-gun crowd.  Pro Gun Link

The Final Debate: Romney vs. Obama
Coming into this debate Romney was the underdog. President Obama has far more experience with foreign policy than Governor Romney. But I think we all have to remember that Obama came into office with little foreign policy experience as well. We also have to keep in mind that the number one priority to Americans right now is the economy. That being said, Romney did better then I expected. Romney for the most part held his ground from the president's attacks. It was far from the landslide that I expected. Obama did come out the winner as expected, but Romney is in a far better position to win than he was before the debates.
